M3i Zero has an upgradable core firmware. The firmware differs from the driver / kernel copied to the MicroSD memory cards. The firmware is the inner programme flashed into the M3i card when it is built. M3i Zero comes with unique firmware writer for the firmware update.

DSi consoles may have future firmware updates which will render the existing DSi flash cards incompatible with the DSi.
